  • Joint Position on OIE and Avian influenza

The Avian influenza crisis has taught the world leaders in poultry and eggs that the monitoring and reporting of this disease in some countries was not in accordance with the rules of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Therefore, the International Egg Commission (IEC) and the International Poultry Council (IPC) strongly urge its members to assure that they intervene with their respective governments in order to secure adherence to international standards and rules, already agreed upon.

This is clearly not the case today in all countries, and the situation is both having a distorting effect on the international trade market and is creating an unnecessary risk of spreading animal diseases.
